Prague Will Come Alive in May With The Prague Drinks Wine Festival

Yet again, Prague will drink wine for the fifth consecutive year. On May 18th and 19th, the New Town Hall at Karlovo náměstí in Prague will host Prague Drinks Wine - one of the largest European wine festival boasting authentic and natural wines. The festival organizers, Prague's VELTLÍN Wine Bar represented by Bogdan Trojak and the Champagnier company headed by Antonín Suchánek are luring guests by presenting both Czech and international wine producers. These include Jeff Vejr who is an American of Czech descent, Charles Dufour who is French or a Milan Nestarec, a young Czech. The accompanying festival program will focus on celebrating 100 years from the birth of the republic.

Wines which are in harmony with nature
On Friday 18th of May (1pm - 8pm) and on Saturday 19th of May (11am - 6pm), visitors will be able to taste around 600 samples from the best selection of wines. The criteria for participating in the festival are very strict. The key to producing authentic wines lies in the return to traditional technologies and minimizing unwanted additives. "Wines produced in a sustainable fashion represent the majority of those presented at the festival. We do not insist on certification and the BIO marks. What's more important than the certification itself is that we know the work the wine producers do and we are aware of how important the resulting authentic wine without any manipulation is to them" explains Bogdan Trojak, the festival founder.

The festival continues the tradition of wine producer meets dating back from the Austro-Hungarian Empire until the onset of World War I. Each year, there is a growing interest in it not only from the ranks of the visitors but also from wine producers themselves. Currently, the festival has over 60 registered producers, primarily family-run vineyards from what used to be under Habsburg rule. The organizers are confident that the maximum capacity of 70 producers will be filled by the end of March. "We are delighted that this year's festival will be visited by American Jeff Vejr who is of Czech descent and produces great wines in Oregon. In addition to this, his grandfather was a legionnaire and fought on the French front (WWI). His family history is full of rich stories. Visitors can also look forward to seeing Charles Dufour from France whose champagne ends up in the majority of Michelin restaurants" adds Antonín Suchánek.

Accompanying program in the spirit of the 100 year anniversary of the republic
This year represents 100 years from establishment of the republic. In addition to wine, guests can enjoy a cultural and educational program focused on the dissolution of Austro-Hungarian Empire which rewrote the map of Europe. The program will also include lectures about what happened with the wine market in 1918 and the roots of independent Czechoslovak wine production.

The historical grounds of New Town Hall will also please fans of food as the festival will also house a food corner. Riccardo Lucque and his La Collezione have already confirmed their  participation.
